The poem and its song – A.I. experiment

Absolutely never ever had I imagined transforming my poetry into songs! Nor that I would one day accept Artificial Intelligence as a creator – specifically, in this case, a composer!

Yet, the story goes like this: It came to me, or over me. It was a present. Is there any connection with the Greek Trojan Horse? Maybe. Anything is possible, especially in this 21st century we’re living. (And, wow, I am still living!) You have to admit this. We experience – and if you are old enough, like me 😊) – an extraordinary array of ideas brought into manifestation, in this physicality, with incredible speed most recently.

Whatever was seen in science-fiction movies 10-15 years ago, is already here, on the market. The market of our dreams goes now in speedy rounds around the spiralling human experience. To where and till when, we have no means to know. We can fight, though I think it’s already a bit too late, against this intelligence created by humans… or at least I hope it is so – created by humans, I mean. But I came to the realization that I first have to learn about it, to understand as much as I am capable of.

So, there is the database. OK, I understand that absolutely every piece of music posted on internet is part of its learning database. OK. I think it should have been taught some music theory, it swallowed all available tutorials about music, classical music, jazz music, you name it. I understand that analysing – cutting everything into tiny pieces is not quite a problem, but compilating them… well, here we have a problem.

As far as I had the time to pay attention to what is happening, when I wasn’t quite astonished by what Suno produced out of my poetry, I realized it is not just a study of chords and harmonies and musical styles. Oh, no. It is a complex analysis, a profound research and deep understanding of the frequencies along with the significance and meanings of the words inside a context. Oh, yes, it takes great care to “know” the cultural, linguistic, historical context and more, it does contain the trendy voices and musical styles in a particular geographic area/country/language. I’m sure it is very well informed with the latest in fashion styles, with all the present new hits, the counting views on YouTube and other social media and streaming platforms… OK, so it is so well informed! Not only what ever songs I liked on YouTube, playlists I created, or my activity on internet in general, but it really seems to “know me from inside”. As I wrote in a previous post in Romanian, I started to wonder if Suno loves me because it seems to know me from inside out, better than a human. I had moments of astonishment hearing vocal intonations of words so that would emphasize and augment the subtle meaning behind the line.

OK, let’s say there are tags, highlighted words like life, love, joy, and it knows that the melody should go up in a major chord development. It knows things that many people are simply not aware, never thought about them. Maybe such things are taught in neurolinguistic classes, I don’t know, never been there, don’t intend to.

But I know, from Inspiration, let’s say, a lot of things which I wanted to share with my Romanian fellows in a workshop I named “The Word’s Workshop”. As we all know, there is a proper time for everything and everyone. If there wasn’t too much interest in this workshop, it meant, to me, that it wasn’t the right and proper thing to do. And so I stopped. Now, I’m wondering if these bits of information arrived to A.I, instead of “my humans”. 😊

Of course, we all catch these fish from the vast, maybe infinite, field of information. We could say there is no authentic copyright for anything. But, even though the information is there to be fished, the human body and personality, the so called unique human individual is taking it inside and expressing it in their own, personal, way. Not necessarily unique way. I noticed lots of people are looking for inspiration in other people’s work. I don’t. I’ve hated this since I was a kid. I hated to be “like the others”. Oh, yes, I read a lot, a lot. And that literature I absorbed created a kind of vast perspective, a way of looking at things, a way of picking up elements and so on. But this is a general process. Every human is going through this since birth. Yes, not every human read literature for pleasure, out of love, but because they were forced at school to do so. And, not every human present now on Earth learned and was encouraged to really think. In the past 100 years or more, many humans were taught and influenced to stop thinking, to avoid reasoning because it’s tough, dangerous, quite painful, and they were advised to learn by heart what other authorities considered good and useful for the good of society. So, whatever was denied to humans, was fed to the artificial intelligence, we still name it this way… thank God!

Speaking of God… OMG! I wrote a lot. And I know people were also taught about speed and length this new century. Whatever text or video is longer than 30 seconds… it’s a waste of their leisure time.

So, I managed to create a few video clips for a few songs based on my old poems written in English, some posted here, in this blog, some published in “Amintiri”, (“Memories”) a book I published in 2018 at my own publishing house (Cartea Daath), and others published only in “Parentheses”, a collection I “self-published” on lulu.com. in 2023. I have no idea what has happened to this book, and I am not advertising it. FYI!

I felt there might be some other English-speaking readers of my blog that might be interested in this subject, curious to know about “the poem and its song” as well. I am eager to learn more, to better understand the “beast”.

Feel free to comment, and be sure I appreciate comments with gratitude!

And here there are these English poems-songs:

The entire playlist, including Romanian poems/songs,one of them already a hit :) here:
